Mr. Adams,
Just finished Maggie and Trudie...absolutely wonderful.

I'm a struggling writer, although I collect a steady paycheck by fixing airplanes, so I suppose technically I am neither struggling or a writer. That said, I do hope to make my living as a writer some day.

Anyway, how important do you think knowing the endless rules of grammar are in fictional and creative writing? It seems to me that beyond a point, reading ceases to be ideas, stories, and emotions and instead turns into introductory modifiers, participial phrases, and other such technical nonsense that reading for pleasure is no longer practical. Some of the best writing teachers I've had claim that they can no longer read novels for pleasure because they find so much fault in their composition.

Just wondering.
